Artifact : Manova Project
MANOVA PROJECT Standards : AECT 1.3 & 5.2
Description: During the Fall semester of 2013, the Manova Project was finished, as one of the required asynchronous courses: GREV 611: Educational Statistics III, instructed by Dr. Gibbs Y. Kanyongo.
Goal: The goal of this statistical research project was to compare the language skills of two groups of English as a foreign language (EFL) students: those who play video games and those who don’t play video games.
Expectation: The expectation was to run an analysis by SPSS, analyze the conclusion, interpret the results, and discuss the limitation and results.
Reflection: Before beginning this project, I was not familiar with Manova in Statistics. I had heard of it in previous classes, but I had never fully understood what it was used for. After completing the project, I now understood this research methodology and can better used it to solve problems. I finished the project during the Fall semester. I have applied one of the most popular apps, English Fun video game, to function as a language learning tools for EFL students. Also, I offered a methodology for evaluating English Fun as a second language acquisition pedagogical tool for EFL students. After running the MANOVA analysis data, we concluded that the English Fun video games don’t help EFL students to acquire second-language speaking and writing skills. I will support and guide my prospective students whilst applying my previous knowledge and skills.
