Artifact : Building Bibliography
Bibliography Standards AECT 5.1
Description: During the summer semester of 2013, I wrote a bibliography every week as an assignment conducted by instructor Dr. Misook Heo for one of the required courses, GDIT 703: Foundations of Instructional Technology.
Goal: The goal of this project was to understand the research design process; to learn how to analyze conference papers and journal articles; and to gain opportunities to engage in research that is personally relevant.
Expectation: The expected outcome was to read two journal articles and two conference papers, build a bibliography every week that related to the research interest, and review the bibliography of peers on a discussion board.
Reflection: Before building bibliography, I was not familiar with dissertation, journal articles, conference papers, APA style, and research process. I had heard of it in orientation, from professors and doctoral student, but had never fully understood how to write it. After building bibliography every week and completing it, I now explored this research design process and to read journal articles and conferences papers which are relevant with my research. I finished the project and improved my knowledge of the contribution of research during the summer semester. I started my research interest and developed my dissertation. I was able to improve my writing skills and technological terms that related to my research. Building Bibliographies was so invaluable in my research process. In particular, I have been working with large numbers of sources over a long period of time. It was very easy to recall details about every source on a topic I am interested in researching. Well-written Building Bibliography helped me to crystalize key information showed in each journal articles and conference papers, preserving it in a format that could easily accessible and revisited at ant stage of the dissertation process. It improved my researching skills and this process enhanced my knowledge about video games. I will allow my prospective students as writers to organize and assess the scholarly research they gathered on a topic they are interested in to increase their writing skills and be knowledgeable about what they are working on. I will highly support and encourage my prospective students to build bibliography in the beginning of their first semester to discover this process at early years.
